Description

Proto-vaporwave encompasses retro-futuristic electronic music from the 1970s-90s that anticipated vaporwave's aesthetic before the genre existed. These tracks feature smooth synths, muzak-inspired melodies, and nostalgic production that evoke corporate lobbies, shopping malls, and idealized leisure culture. The sound captures an unintentionally surreal quality that later vaporwave artists would deliberately sample and deconstruct.
