Desert rock is a subgenre of rock music that originated in the desert regions of the Southwestern United States, specifically in the Palm Desert area of California in the early 1990s. It is characterized by its heavy, guitar-driven sound, often with a strong rhythm section and psychedelic or stoner rock influences. The term "desert rock" was first used to describe the sound of bands such as Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, and Fu Manchu, who were associated with the Palm Desert scene. Other bands often associated with the genre include Eagles of Death Metal, Brant Bjork, and Slo Burn.
