Gothic rock is a genre of music that emerged in the late 1970s as an offshoot of post-punk music. It is characterized by its dark, atmospheric sound, which often includes haunting vocals, heavy use of bass guitar, and distinctive guitar riffs. Lyrically, gothic rock often deals with themes of death, romance, and the supernatural. Some of the most well-known gothic rock bands include The Cure, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Joy Division.
