It features fast, syncopated breakbeats, heavy basslines, and chopped-up, often heavily processed samples. Drum and bass is typically played at high tempos, with typical beats-per-minute (BPM) ranging from 160 to 180, although some subgenres may be slower or faster. The genre has a complex rhythmic structure and often incorporates elements of jazz, funk, and other genres.
