Acid house is an electronic dance music genre that emerged in Chicago during the mid-1980s, characterized by repetitive 4/4 beats, synthesized basslines, and the distinctive squelching sound of the Roland TB-303 bass machine. The genre became central to UK rave culture in the late 1980s, fueling an underground movement of warehouse parties and youth rebellion. Its hypnotic, psychedelic qualities and raw, machine-driven aesthetic influenced countless electronic music styles that followed.
