NWOBHM stands for "New Wave of British Heavy Metal". It is a subgenre of heavy metal music that emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s in the UK. It was a response to the commercialization and mainstream success of earlier heavy metal bands such as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin, and was characterized by a faster and more aggressive sound. NWOBHM bands often featured twin lead guitars, powerful vocals, and lyrics that often dealt with themes of rebellion, war, and the occult. Some of the most well-known NWOBHM bands include Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Saxon, and Diamond Head.
